PLOUGHING MATCH
On Thursday last the annual Ploughing Match of the Strabane Branch of the N.W. Society, took place in two fields of the Marquis of Abercorn’s at Woodend. The day being exceedingly fine, a great number of respectable persons attended to witness the scene. At twelve o’clock, sixteen well appointed Ploughs started; the greatest anxiety was evinced by all present on seeing the exertions of the different competitors, particularly of a lad not more than fifteen years old, son to Mr Edward Divin of Tullyard, who held his father’s plough, and who will very probably be a successful Candidate on a future occasion.
The following is a list of the names of the owners of the Ploughs with their respective ploughmen:....
Mr Robert Alexander, Sandville, Mr James Woods Sion, and MR DONALD McDONALD, Holyhill, having been appointed Judges, proceeded to inspect the several lots ploughed, and had much difficulty in coming to the following decision, so well was the ploughing executed..........
