FLEMMING OBITUARIES
OBITURARY - ROBERT FLEMMING - NSW AUSTRALIA
(Orange Leader Newspaper 10th March 1936)
Robert FLEMMING b. 20 Mar 1852 (obtained from family bible) d. 6 Mar 1936.
The death occured on Friday night of Mr. Robert FLEMMING at his home 10 Hawken's Lane ORANGE. (NSW Australia)
Mr FLEMMING was 86 years of age and was the oldest living member of the Protestant Alliance Lodge which
he joined when he first came to Orange in the latter part of the Nineteenth Century. The Lodge was then known as The Orange Benefit Society.
Shortly after his arrival in Australia in 1879 he shared a farm with his sister, Mrs. Margaret GRIFFITH, at March.
He later married and made his home in Orange where he raised a family of ten. There were 3 girls and 7 sons five of whom are now living. Mrs E. M. Williams (Orange) Miss Mary Ann FLEMMING (deceased), Mrs R. V. GREEN (Lakemba) his three daughters. Robert Victor (Barradine), Charlie (Orange), Thomas Henry (deceased), Alfred Ernest (deceased), Amos (Lakemba) his seven sons.
Mr FLEMMING is also survived by 25 Grandchildren. One of the first pioneering farmers of the Orange District. He came to Orange at the age of 27 years form COUNTY TYRONE IRELAND where he was born. He made his first home in Nile Street after his marriage to Rebecca Charlotte GREEN of "WELLWOOD" ORANGE in 1883. She predeceased him by 23 years. Although he was a cricket enthusiast his main interest was in cultivating chrysanthemums. His flowers were well known at the Bathurst and Orange District Shows. Except for the last few years he spent most of his life in ORANGE and had many old friends in the town. He as enthusiastic in the Congregational Church. His remains were interred in the Methodist Portion of the Orange Cemetery yesterday. Reverend Wesley Stocks read the service.

ANOTHER FLEMING ANCESTOR
MARY FLEMING (nee GRIFFITH) b.A 1813 Ireland Mary married (Ireland) to John Fleming, a shoemaker/farmer This Fleming family were living in Drumqueen (Drumquin) Co. Tyrone in 1854.
Known children Jane 22 yrs, Margaret 21 yrs. immigrated to Australia in 1854 per "China".
Relations of Jane and Margaret already in the Colony - two uncles John & James Griffin living with Mr. H. Osborne, Illawarra, N.S.W. (Source; Immigrants ship "China", 24th September, 1854).
Robert FLEMMING, a brother arrived Australia 4th May, 1879 per "Peterborough".
The parents of Mary were Alexander Griffith/Griffin and Jane (Somerville?) of Cornamuck.
