Cloughcor National School taken
c.1900. The two young girls with bows in their hair (14 & 15 from the left) are my grandmother, Isobel Doherty and her sister Ellen
Doherty daughters of John Doherty who ran the forge in Artigarvan which was owned by William Sigerson. I received this photo from my mother.
She cannot recall any of the other people in the photo.
Leckpatrick National School - no date availabe.
Postcard of Artigarvan c.1900 in which can be seen John Doherty's, my greatgrandfather, forge on the right. John Doherty was the blacksmith in the Artigarvan forge and his father (Denis) before him. Denis is listed as the tenant in Griffith's Valuation in the 1850s. They leased the forge from William Sigerson, who also owned land and a spade mill in Artigarvan. Many of the Sigerson family died at an early age from TB and there are two family graves in St Mary's RC in Cloughcor. George Sigerson, William's son became quite famous as a writer.
