FUNERAL OF MISS BRIDGET O’NEILL, CREDUFF, CASTLEDERG, CASTLEDERG, CO. TYRONE
The funeral of the late of MISS BRIDGET O’NEILL took place the other day, and was the largest and most representative in the parish of Termonamongan for many years, there being requisitioned sixty-six cars and carriages in conveying gentlemen of the different religious denominations and professions who came to pay the last tribute to the deceased esteemed lady.
At eleven o’clock a.m. the remains were removed from her late residence at Creduff to Aghyarren Catholic Church preparatory to her interment in the adjoining churchyard. Requiem Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Patrick Devlin, C.C. At the conclusion of the Holy Sacrifice the Rev. John McConallogue. P.P., addressed a few appropriate remarks to the congregation on the virtuous life and holy death of their departed friend. He referred in suitable language to the many good qualities which characterised the deceased, and of how he was impressed during her last illness with her pious resignation to the will of God. He also remarked that she was the child of pious parents, and her religious sentiments were nurtured, and developed by her religious associations, particularly with that of her sisters, viz., Sister Mary Agela (sic), of the Mercy Convent, Strabane, and Sister Mary Ita, of the Mercy Convent, Newry. and Sister Mary Frances, of the Mercy Convent, Mount St. Joseph, Strabane.
The chief mourners were – MR. FRANK O’NEILL (brother), MR. JAMES O’NEILL, Belfast (cousin), MESSRS. MICHAEL and JAMES BRITTON, Pettigo (cousins), MR. MICHAEL GALLAGHER, Pettigo (cousin), MR. MICHAEL HEALY, Ardstraw (brother-in-law), MR. WILLIAM MAGILL, Belfast (uncle) and MESSRS. PATRICK and FRANK McCANNEY, Drumquin (uncles).
Amongst the clergymen who attended were – Right Rev. Monsignor O’Hagan, P.P., V.F., Strabane; Very Rev. Bernard McLaughlin, P.P., Killygordon; Rev. John McConallogue, P.P., Killeter; Rev. William T. O’Doherty, P.P., Newtownstewart; Rev. James O’Kane, P.P., Cappagh; Rev. Charles Kelly, P.P., Drumquin; Rev. Francis Healy, P.P., Gortin; Rev. Patrick McKeefry, C.C., Drumquin; Rev. John McElhatton, C.C., Strabane, Rev. Patrick Kerlin, C.C., Leckpatrick, Rev. Andrew Campbell, C.C., Coleraine, Rev. Patrick Devlin, C.C., Killeter, Rev. Neil McAtamney, C.C., Killeter, Rev. William Verner, rector ,and Rev. William Duncan, Presb. Minister, Killeter. The Rev. John McConallogue, P.P. pronounced the absolution, and the grave closed over the remains of an amiable and pious young lady.
