George M'Cahon Obituary Notes


The death took place in hospital on Wednesday of Rev. Geoge M'Cahon, M.A. Killeaton Crescent, Dunmurry, who was senior miniter of Orriotr Presbyterian Church, Cookstown. He was aged 84.

Born of County Derry parents in Fortworth, Texas, Mr M'Cahon came to Ulster at the age of seven. Thirteen years later he returned to America to complete his studies.

First he attended the school founded by D.L. Moody in Massachusetts, and afterwards took his B.A. at Lafayette University and M.A. degree at Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey, where he also did a two year theological course at Princeton Theological College.

He remained in the United States for seven years and finished off his preparation for the ministry at Assembly's College, Belfast.

Mr M'Cahon's first calling was to the Mission fields of South China where he served for three years under the English Presbyterian Church. He was obliged to leave China owing to ill-health. He made the journey home by British Columbia and North America.

On returning home, he received a call Ballymote Presbyterian Church, Co Sligo, where he remained for five years. He Came to Orritor in 1929 and retired from active ministry there in 1957. Mr M'Cahon is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters.
