The Hamilton rent Books, are the records of accounts of rents of land in the townlands that belonged to the Hamilton's (Earl Of Abercorn.) During the plantation period, before Cromwell-, James I granted land to Scottish undertakers for colonization in 1610. The Hamiltons of Renfrewshire received grants of land of 3,000 acres in Strabane and Dunnalong. Although over the course of time- they purchased more land from some of the other chief undertakers. The Abercorn Papers are apparently one of the largest collection in the PRONI, and 300 years worth of information has been filmed by the LDS. The film # 247315 has Wills of the Marquis of Abercorn,1890, Administration Papers 1819, Abercorn rent Books for Donegal and Tyrone 1849-1857. |
The other chief undertakers were: (plantation acreage)
