STRABANE QUARTER SESSIONS, APRIL 1841
These Sessions commenced on Monday, the 19th ult., before RICHARD NUNN, Esq., Assistant Barrister for county Tyrone, when the civil bill business was proceeded with; and on Thursday, the 22nd, the crown business was entered into. The following persons were then put on their trial: -
MARY McCORMICK, for stealing a piece of cloth from MR. SCOTT, Strabane |
Guilty – To be imprisoned three weeks in Bridewell |
CHARLES and MATILDA GORMLEY, for stealing potatoes at Donemana |
Guilty – Charles to be imprisoned four calendar months to hard labour, and Matilda three weeks in Bridewell |
HUGH KEOGAN, for picking the pocket of John Hunter, in Strabane market, a purse, containing 10 shillings |
Guilty – To be transported for fifteen years. |
JOHN and WM. MAXWELL, for resisting SERGEANT PRICE, of the police, at Donemana, in the execution of a search warrant |
Guilty – Each to be imprisoned two calendar months, and to give security to keep the peace in £15 each |
EDWARD MURRAY and WM. CAULFIELD, for stealing beans out of the garden of MR. SAM. BRODIE |
Guilty – Murray to be imprisoned one week and Caulfield six weeks |
JOSEPH LOVE, for stealing turf at Donemana |
Submitted, fined 6 pence and to fined security of peace £10 and two in £5 each |
JOHN McCARBARY, THOMAS BUCHANAN and ALEXANDER BUCHANAN, JOHN KELLY and WM. BUCHANAN, for riot at Donemana |
Submitted; Thomas Buchanan to pay a fine of £1 to the Churchwardens of Donagheady parish and 10 shillings to prosecutor, Hugh Donaghy of police, Alexander Buchanan to pay a fine of ten shillings to churchwardens of said parish; all to find security of peace, themselves on £20 each, with two securities of £10 each |
ELEANOR KELLY, for stealing flax |
Guilty- to be imprisoned one week |
CATHERINE CURTIS, for stealing a gown from MRS. ARBUCKLE, Spring Hill, Strabane |
Guilty – to be imprisoned for three calendar months, first and last week solitary confinement. |
ANNE CRAIG, an accomplice with CURTIS |
Submitted – To be imprisoned one fortnight |
LAURENCE McCALLION for an assault on JOHN GORMLEY |
Submitted – To pay a fine of 6 pence and find security for peace, himself in £20 and two in £10 each |
