On Thursday last, an inquest was held in the Infirmary, on the body of John Jervis, of Glasgow, a fireman from the steamer "Londonderry". On Tuesday last he had taken ill on board the steamer on ' passage to this Port. He was, on arrival taken to the Infirmary where he died late that night. A verdict that he "died by the visitation of God" was returned by the Jury.

Patrick Teeling was indicted for the manslaughter of James Johnston, at Coleraine, on the 7th January. John Hunter, examined by Mr. Scholaes, Q.C., knew the deceased James Johnston; saw him alive in Coleraine on the 7th of January, about a quarter past six o'clock; saw the prisoner strike him with his fist; observed the deceased fall on the curb stone. Dr. Babington examined the deceased man after his death; found an extensive fracture of the back of the skull, and an extravasation of blood about the brain: the injury was sufficient to cause death. The prisoner said that he had enlisted shortly before that in the Royal Artillery. He was found guilty by the jury. His Lordship afterwards directed that the prisoner should be delivered over to the Sergeant of Artillery now in Derry.
