Suddenly, on Saturday last, James Kears, a shoemaker, of Greenslead's Row, a native of Belfast, collapsed and died in the neighbourhood of Founrian Street. An inquest held before Minchin Lloyd Esq. coroner for the district and a verdict of was returned that the deceased had died form disease of the heart.

On Wednesday morning week, a fishing boat with her crew of four men, Hugh Kelly, Adam Clark, James McAlister and Daniel Hamill left the harbour of Portrush to take up "bait creels" from the Skerry roadsteads. After rounding Ramore Head, a fearful wave struck the boat overturning it and sinking three of the men, who were never seen again. The fourth, Daniel Hamill, was rescued by the exertions of William Richardson of Portrush, who was in the vicinity with his boat.
