He was educated at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, and lately appointed to his Majesty's Surveying department in Ireland. An afflicted mother and six of an orphan family are left to mourn his loss.

A most lamentable accident occurred at Portrush on the evening of Sunday last, when the Rev. Thomas Whittaker, Wesleyan Minister, accompanied by Mr. Robert Carey, son of the Rev. John Carey, of Newry, went to Portrush, travelling in a gig, for the purpose of holding divine service in that place, at 4pm in the afternoon, and were about to return, when the horse ran back and dashed the two men over the dock and unto the rocks below. Mr. Whittaker sustained slight injuries, but his travelling conpanion aged 19 years, met with instant death. A coroner's court returned a verdict of accidental death

On Wednesday morning week, a fishing boat with her crew of four men, Hugh Kelly, Adam Clark, James McAlister and Daniel Hamill, left the harbour of Portrush to take up "bait creels" from the Skerry roadsteads. After rounding Ramore Head, a fearful wave struck the boat, overturning it and sinking three of the men, who were never seen again. The fourth, Daniel Hamill, was rescued by the exertions of William Richardson, of Portrush, who was in the vicinity with his boat

On the 31st ult., in his 88th year, John Dickey Esq. of Cullybackey. His ancestors were from Ayrshire, John Dicke or Dickie, married a daughter of Hyndman of Myroe, county Derry, a sister of Captain Hyndman, officer of the guard, who fired the first shot on the Earl of Antrims Regiment, December 1688 on the closing of the gates of Derry. This John Dickie was considered too old to fight at the seige, but his house at Ballymulley, near the Roe Water, was burned by the retreating army of James.
