Robert McCutcheon (1811-1892) - Biography

Robert McCutcheon b. 1811 in County Tyrone married (1st) Jane McManus. Jane was b. 1815 possibly in the Seskinore area of Clogherny Parish, in County Tyrone. They had four (possibly five) children all believed to have been born in County Tyrone. Matilda McCutcheon b. 1832, William McCutcheon b. Sep 1834, Margaret A McCutcheon b. 18 May 1837, Lila Ann McCutcheon b. 2 Apr 1847 and possibly a Jane McCutcheon b. 19 Nov 1841. The family emigrated to Inverness, Megantic, Quebec, Canada where Robert's brother James McCutcheon had previously emigrated. They arrived sometime before Matilda's marriage there on 10 Jan 1853. Jane McManus McCutcheon died on 29 Feb 1860 in Nelson, Megantic, Quebec, Canada and was buried in St. Stephen's Anglican Cemetery in Inverness.

Robert McCutcheon married (2nd) Elizabeth Henderson b. 10 Mar 1834 in Inverness. Elizabeth's parents were both born on the Caledon Estate in Ireland. Her father William Edward Henderson was born in County Armagh and her mother Susannah Davidson in County Tyrone. Robert and Elizabeth were married 8 Oct 1861 in Inverness. They had seven children all born in Halifax Township, Megantic, Quebec, Canada. Sarah b. 9 Sep 1862, Susan b. 19 Dec 1863, Robert J. b. Jan 1867, James b. 16 Mar 1872, Elizabeth b. 30 Oct 1874, Mary b. 1 Mar 1877, and Antoinette Agnes b. 6 Jan 1882. Robert died at the age of 81 in Halifax Township on 28 Oct 1892. He was buried in St. Stephen's Anglican Cemetery in Inverness. After his death his wife Elizabeth Henderson McCutcheon lived near her children. First she moved to St. Johnsbury, Vermont and lived with her son Robert J. McCutcheon and his family. By 1907 she is living in Southern California where three of her children (Robert J., Mary and Antoinette) lived by 1910. Elizabeth died there on 8 Jul 1913. She is buried in Mt. View Cemetery in Pasadena, Los Angeles County, California.
