In the Name of God Amen I Robert Carsan of the City of Philadelphia in North America Merchant but now resident at Strabane in Ireland intending shortly to go to Philadelphia and considering the uncertainty of human life and the danger that attends voyages so in consideration hereof make this my last Will and Testament revoking all former Wills heretofore made by me I leave and bequeath to my Brother in law Thomas Higgins of the Head Elk in Maryland in North America and to William Lecky of the City of Derry alderman all my Lands tenements and hereditaments being and lying in Strabane in the County of Tyrone in the Kingdom of Ireland on this special trust for the uses intents and purposes hereinafter expressed that is to say first to permit and suffer my Mother Barbara Carsan to take to her own use all the Issues and profits of the said Lands tenements and hereditaments during her natural life and from and after her death then to go to my Nephew Samuel Carsan Higgins son of the aforesaid Thomas Higgins by my late Sister Nichola Carsan his late wife and in case my said Nephew dies before he attains the age of twenty one years I give and devise the same to my brother in law the said Thomas Higgins and after his death I give and devise the same to the said Wm. Lecky of the City of Londonderry Alderman his Heirs and Successors I also leave and bequeath to my Servant Simon twenty pounds sterling per year during his life to be paid by my Executors out of my said Estate I do nominate constitute and appoint William Lecky of said City Alderman and my said Brother in law Thomas Higgins sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament given under my hand and seal at Londonderry this tenth day of May 1783

The last Will and Testament of Robert Carsan formerly of the City of Philadelphia in North America but late of Strabane in Ireland Merchant deceased (having and so forth) was proved in common form of Law and probate thereof granted by the most Reverend Father Richard and so forth to William Lecky Esquire one of the Executors named in the said Will he being first sworn by Commission (saving the right of Thomas Higgins the other Executor) Dated the 31st of August 1784 a true copy which I attest Hen. Upton Diocesan Registrar

 

This Will was proved at London the twentieth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty four before the Right Worshipful Peter Calvert Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of William Lecky Esquire one of the Executors named in the said Will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the deceased having been first sworn by Commission Duly to administer power reserved of making the like grant to Thomas Higgins the other Executor named in the said Will when he shall apply for the same ~
